Our South Windsor community supports and values its children. Click, watch, and enjoy what has been done for Orchard Hill Elementary, Phase 1 of the 10 Year-Elementary Schools Plan. Eli Terry and Philip R. Smith Schools, Phase 2, is currently underway. The anticipated referendum date for Pleasant Valley (PV, Phase 3) is March 2020.
On Sunday, October 21, from 4-6 PM, Support South Windsor Schools will host a community gathering at Wood Library showcasing South Windsor's new elementary school, Orchard Hill, and to present to the community the design plans for the new builds for Eli Terry and Philip R. Smith schools.
While the design phase for Pleasant Valley will not occur until after a successful referendum passage in March 2020, both the reality of Orchard Hill and the proposals for Eli Terry and Philip R. Smith will give current and future PV parents an insight to what is possible.
The reception will be ongoing from 4-6, with brief remarks beginning at approximately 4:45.
Welcome will be given by Dr. Carter, Superintendent of Schools and Mr. Zimmerman, Chair of the Board of Education, followed by a short presentation by representatives of Mosher, Pilon, Nelson, architects, and from Gilbane Construction.
The referendum passed 77% to 23% with nearly 4,000 votes cast!
Support SW Schools is sharing the total additional tax impact of Phase 2 to SW homeowners as prepared by Town Manager Matthew Galligan and sent to all homes in the Board of Education's Community Update-December 2016 mailing.
The impact is not compounded, and represents the total 'extra' tax that will be for six years only of the 20 year bond. A $200,000 market value house homeowner would pay a total extra of $182 over the six year period ($2.53/mo), while a $500,000 market value house homeowner would pay a total extra of $455 ($6.32/mo) over six years.
Historic low bond rates, maximum state construction reimbursement, retired town debt. A win-win-win for children and homeowners.
